A Dog Friendly Guide To London

Fancy a trip out in London but not sure where you can take your dog? We spoke to Refinery29’s resident dog-lover, Hannah Shaw, owner of miniature dachshund Nelly, for her top dog friendly spots in the capital. Whether you want to hit the shops, stay the night at a dog-friendly hotel or just take a trip to the pub, she's got you covered.

Here’s what Hannah had to say…

I’ve lived for the last six years in East London with my miniature dachshund, Nelly. I work for the VICE owned women’s publication Refinery29, with a small but mighty team of incredible people. I feel very lucky to live and work in a city where so many places are dog-friendly. Nelly comes almost everywhere with me (besides the office!) so we’re always on the lookout for the best spaces to work and socialise in. Here’s my top five:

SHED Coffee.

SHED has a few locations across the city but we most frequently set up in their Leyton or Haggerston shops. Their cafes are perfectly set up for remote workers, with loads of plugs and table space. They are super welcoming to dogs and serve the best coffee (and wine!).

Oxford Street wouldn’t be my normal recommendation for a day out with a dog, however, London’s oldest (and my favourite) department store, Liberty, is dog friendly and one of my places to go if I’m in town.

The Spurstowe Arms.

Luckily in London (especially East), you’ll find it hard to come across a pub which isn’t dog-friendly. However, one of my favourites is definitely the Spurstowe Arms, it’s got great vibes, a lovely beer garden and is always busy with locals and their dogs. I also need to give a shout-out to The Adam and Eve in Homerton, every year they host a dog show which is well worth visiting even if you don’t have your own.

Victoria Park.

East London is blessed to have so much green space, but my absolute favourite park has to be Victoria Park. It’s best to visit on a Sunday when the food markets are on, and if you walk along the canal towards Broadway Market, you can find a floating boat selling dog-friendly treats.
